ok my lietsetp take uder 16 mgs what contributes to the size of my litestep these are my following modules loaded
jdesk-0.711
label-1.99
popup2-2.1.6
vtray-1.06
ckHotspots
lsxcommand-1.8.5
textedit-2.4l-13
mzscript-0.8.6l
Is there anythign I can do to make is smaller something I ahve to do in my .rc files or just loading less modules?
Is there a module that really takes up ram compared to the rest?
Thanks for you input
Use shortcut2-2.0.1 and watch your mem size drop 3mg or so.
upgrade mzscript to .9 and loose ckhotspots
Refactor your scripting to do everything with mzscript and get rid of textedit.
label, popup2, mzscript, and jdesk probably use up the most memory, but you can't necessarily do anything about it while keeping the same look and functionality.
For lsxcommand, trim your engines.list file. The default is huge and you're probably not using most of it.
The current theme I'm working on has the same modules as my last one, less of them actually displayed right now, and smaller and fewer images...yet is almost 5MB, where the other was 2.3MB.
I used the same versions of the same modules even. The only real difference is more LsBoxes and more labels. Also makes sense, as my theme before that didn't even hit 2MB. But it's worth a few MB to use LsBoxes!
So if you're tinkering, whatch out for those two.
um is there a link that can gimme an idea how to do the "refactoring" seems my textedit and my mzscript need to be together where can I read up to fix the script.rc file so I don't need textedit
and shortcut2? what module could I substitute to use that? I mean only thing on my desktop is label and jdesk and I don't have much of a chouse for popup module
Don't forget NetLoadModule and your hotkey module. Getting rid of NLM and (x)label should help most. You could also disable LSUseSystemDDE (restart litestep.exe after that, don't just !recycle).
But don't say that you don't want to remove label because you need its features. You can't cut any program's memory usage down without losing any functionality. Any feature that you add will add to the memory usage.
EDIT: Before I forget, loading label won't really use too much memory, but using its [vars] might do that.
Hm, I don't think there are any guides for removing the dependency on textedit... Understand how $vars$ work, and mzscript's varsave capability. If you're just using it to change things like "setting true" to "setting false", this is pretty easy. The main trick is to use *varFile and include on the same file. Then you can just set the new value and it'll be changed when you recycle.
Ok I am kinda lost on the textedit part I am good with scripting but I need to see an example and that is how I learn...........see what I did is I have the original austerity theme that came with my omar's installer build all I did was change the image files and cut down lots of stuff I din't need and loaded the label module, I'll rar my files and maybe (if I am really lucky) you guys could take a look at it and tunr my 16mg theme to under 10mg. It's pretty nice and simple (and tailored towards dual monitor users)I just want to make it smaller so I can at least contribute and upload my theme for the litestep community
