Where is the registry key or line in a file which tells the computer the program to use as the shell?

which windows-version do u use?
in windows98(se) u have to edit the "system.ini" and u must insert a command "shell=c:\litestep\litestep.exe" and kill the line "shell=explorer.exe". In Windows-NT u will find the registry-key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\Shell". U have to change the shell from explorer to litestep.exe.
