Hello everyone! I'm coming back to shell replacement after a few years of being away. I used to run LS to make my windows box look like the BeOS I was running, just for fun. Well anyway, now I have a dedicated Audio Workstation in a studio that I want to try a different Shell with, one that is VERY stable, and takes up few resources. I don't really need anything that looks far out, just one that might be a little faster than the Explorer that I'm running now.

Computer is a 2 x Athlon1800mp, running XP with 1.5G RAM.

This may seem like a crazy insane suggestion but im gonna suggest litestep. go figure.

i can't imagine anyone here would recommend anything different unless they're just a glutton for punishment and like hanging out on a site that doesn't pertain to them.

are you sure you are asking for a SHELL on LITESTEP.net ? I mean seriously... think about it!

Thank you for the replies guys. I was pretty much set on LS already, with a tiny nod to geoshell. I just wonder about scaling LS down, making it unobtrusive, and STABLE! I'm using an iBook for my internet/typing/e-mail, and I really dig that I can restart the Finder and a lot of memory leaks are purged. I don't have to restart the computer! Does the recycle feature of LS compare to that?

Oh, and an audio workstation is a computer dedicated for recording music only. I have a small recording studio, and I don't want to shell out the big bucks for ProTools when there is better software that is cheaper!

Try a Minimal theme with Hotspots

Every LiteStep setup is as stable as its most unstable module. A single buggy module is enough to break the most stable theme. If you are very careful in selecting your modules you should get a quite stable configuration.

Just buy a Mbox to get Pro Tools 6.11
Or use win98 and download Pro Tools Free.
You are wasting your time using anything else!
Pro Tools has amazing sound quality!
I made a small theme of pro tools already if you want it!
