Automatic download of modules Thread last updated on 2004-03-11 17:21:01

I seem to be having problems with the auto download of modules that takes place during theme installation/change. Most modules get a red "X" and an error message about the zip file. It's happened on 2 different computers with every new theme I've tried.

I can't imagine it's something I'm doing since it's always worked fine before and I'm not doing anything different.

Any ideas?

Are you connected to the internet when trying to download these modules? Are you behind a firewall? A router?

Yes I'm connected to the Internet. I'm behind a linksys router, but haven't had problems accessing anything else.

I'm behind a linksys (wireless) router too, and I don't have any problems with NLM. I guess you could check the loaded modules in theme.rc and download them manually, if everything fails.

Is there anyway of getting the auto-downloader to work through a proxy, in particular an authenticating proxy?

it uses iexplore settings

Make sure the module names are valid, and make sure your *NetLoadModuleSite lines in the root step.rc are correct.

It is connecting to some remote site, otherwise it wouldn't get an invalid file to complain about. loose-screws, afaik, still sends an empty file instead of a file not found error.

When trying to use it through an authenticating proxy, it doesn't popup and ask for the username/password, like a browser does. It will just sit there for a minute and then show a fail for downloading the modules. Becasue it doesn't ask for username/password it doesn't get through the proxy.

Well that sucks. afaict, Microsoft doesn't tell us how to do that. I have suspicions, but not the time to look into them right now. :/
