resolution problems Thread last updated on 2004-03-03 16:46:32

Not that this is directly related to litestep, but you are an educated bunch of people and I was hoping you could help me with my problem because I can't seem to find a solution by myself. Here's the specs:

PROVIEW PRO-745 ProView 17" Flat-Screen CRT Monitor

Radeon 7500 graphics card

Ok, now the problem is that I when I go to any resolution over 1024x768 I get a bad refresh rate, like horizontal lines and bad screen flicker. I downloaded multiple patches for the graphics card to no avail; I've updated to the newest directX and downloaded all windows patches. Nothing. Just for informational purposes for the default patch that comes with the graphics card any resolution over 1024x768 would scroll, that is you use the mouse to get to the edges of the screen (it doesn't show the whole desktop at one time). This problem isn't caused by litestep, it happens on litestep and explorer. It's been like this forever I I'm starting to think the monitor I have came messed up from the factory. Although the other day I used a different monitor with my computer and it worked fine on higher resolutions. So I left it on a higher resolution and used the messed up monitor, and surprise, it was working fine on the high resolution, no flicker. I changed it to a low res and back to a high one and it was crap again, hooked it up to the other monitor and set it to a high res and hooked the messed up one back still crap....

Might it be a graphics card/mother board (hardware in general) conflict with the monitor?

I know nobody probably has a clue about this one, but any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I understood everything, but did you try manually changing the refresh rate?

Have you updated the drivers for your monitor and made sure that all other old drivers for video have been removed?

Also check control panel -> display -> settings -> advanced -> displays -> monitor. (mine's a 7200, so it may be different) You can set the maximum resolution and refresh rate there, overriding what the monitor reports via ddc. Be careful though, you can harm the monitor if you set it too high.
