Anyone know why active desktop links using the Windows shell will open my default browser, but clicking a desktop links in Lite Step insist on using Internet Explorer?
This only happens when clicking desktop links.
Sorry I probably should've posted this in general, being that I don't think this problem is unique to my theme but rather to litestep itself.
Is there more information on this, or is this just a litestep bug?
You probably set $browser$ to launch IE - run litestep\utilities\EvarConfig.exe or edit litestep\personal\evars.rc.
Nah browser is set to firefox, which is why it loads for everything but, clicking on a desktop link.
There was a similar problem with stock Windows XP, but they released a patch so now a stock kernel will open your default browser when you click an active desktop link.
Hurm... what exactly is the "desktop link" you're talking about? A .url file on displayed by IconDesk?
I would imagine so, the url's are stored in my \themes\mytheme\config\linx.htm file.
I'm guessing it may not necessarily be a bug in LiteStep but perhaps rather a bug in IconDesk?
Desktop Browser
On the left of the screen is a desktop browser window.
This displays the linx.htm file found in the config directory.
Pasted from the theme readme file.
Well, my problem is I can't delete the IE shortcut. It's Icondesk from Glaze 1.3
kremisos26: It sounds like this is using an embedded IE window to display the linx.htm file. So they would be opening in IE because they were opened from IE. I think I've seen it said that sufficiently recent versions of IE might use the default browser, but I have no idea.
CarLBanks: Open an explorer file manager window and navigate to the desktop. If there's an IE shortcut there, delete it and !recycle. If not, you'll have to edit the theme's .rc files... search the theme's folder for .rc files that mention iexplore, and try putting a ; at the beginning of each line that does.
There is no reference to iexplore and deleting the shortcut to IE didn't solve this problem.
From theme.rc:
;Browser window on your desktop (using the file Linx.htm)
OborzevatelWindows aw
awX 0
awY 0
awWidth 180
awHeight 570
awURL $ConfigDir$Linx.htm
oborzevate only supports IE. Thats about all that can be said about that. Without the source code, there's not much I can do to change that, and I had some trouble finding it, so its looking like I'm pretty sol there. On a good note, by the time I'm done troubleshooting the LiteStep themes I like, I should be a litestep pro :P
lol cheers
