Multitasking problems Thread last updated on 2004-02-22 08:06:13

Hi,

I have a problem. I run litestep not as a shell, but in addition to explorer (mostly for hotkeys/vwm). When I start Outlook the machine starts swapping heavily and litestep stops responding for some time.

In the meantime, winamp runs fine, as well as coolmon and rainmeter (standalone). Windows Explorer runs fine too (e.g. start-menu and other things). Cpu is lower than 100%, so it is not a cpu/scheduling issue.

When Outlook is relaxing a bit, any queued hotkey pressed are executed by litestep.

It does not help to run litestep at high priority, tried that.

Any suggestions?

Hrm, odd. Try disabling the VWM, I know some VWM modules don't like being run ontop of explorer. If that doesn't help, try to load litestep.exe with a blank step.rc to figure out whether it's a core or a module issue.

thx, will try. I'll also try running it w/o explorer and see what happends then. This is 0.24.7 RC1 I am running. I just upgraded from 0.25, and I had the same problem there...

Good to see that the community is alive btw. I was active for a bit up to like 2 years ago or something...

thx, it seemed like it could be ckVWM 1.40 that causes the problem

If you need a VWM you could try rabidvwm instead. It may have less problems when run ontop of explorer.
