OTS & OTS2 Difference? Thread last updated on 2004-02-16 18:10:32

Newbie here, I am trying to be very cautious about loading new themes and after reading several articles on the various Litestep pages, it is highly reccomended to use OTS themes as they will be less buggy. Any idea how I can get to those types of themes? The only themes I can find listed on this site appear to be quite new, which I would assume makes them OTS2 themes. Any info you could provide would be great.

Thanks!

i havent had any problem with ots2 themes, neither with ots ones. it's just some themes that are badly desingned.

i suggest you to use ots2 themes, as the installer was designed primarily to use those.

How do you tell the difference?

ots2 themes come with a theme.rc instead of a step.rc, use netloadmodule to load the modules, so their file size is often smaller than ots themes. they should also say somewhere if they are ots or ots2.

plus ots themes have a modules dir coming with all the modules the theme needs, while ots2 is more efficient here and has a kind of central module repository where all modules get downloaded by netloadmodule, so you don't have the same module several times in different themes.
... err... confusing? ;P
