Litestep and zonealarm Thread last updated on 2003-01-31 09:29:39

I have installed litestep on W98 via litestepinstaller. Everythings work fine.
But..
Normally, my PC is protected with firewall Zonealarm v3.8, antispy program spyblocker and antivirus McAfee.
Working with the shell litestep, zonealarm don't want to start up.

As my PC is always online, cable connection, I want to get zonealarm back working under the new shell.

Restarting the shell explorer, zonealarm start up. So it has to do something with Litestep.

are you sure that zonealarm isn't running at all or could it be that LS just doesn't display its tray icon?

try the infamous crtl+alt+del and check the active task...if zone alarm is there, then it's just not going to your systray....
Some applications programs don't go there, specialy after a !recycle command, at least in my Win98 test computer....

I run Zone Alarm Pro under windows XP with 12/9/02 release of indistep and have no problems with the icon in systray2.dll. I belive if your not running a later version of systray2.dll you will not see the ZA icon. Also if you have ever installed DeskTopX you'll notice two systray applications running(I don't remember their names), even without DeskTopX running. Those 2 programs running will cause the systray2.dll to act up and icons won't be displayed properly.

Alot of people complain of certain programs not running under litestep but generally its the theme and module your using. like theproblem said, use crtl+atl+del to check and see if its running. Generally the systemtray wont display cause of certain theme commands. Are you using the basic litestep theme?

I experience the same thing, but I've found that a shortcut to zonealarm.exe in C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp solves the problem.. make sure you disable the original path (ZoneAlarmPro) in the startup utility and keep your shortcut checked so you'll have zonealarm in your tray with both windows and litestep :)

OK,
I will try it out with a shortcut in the startup.

To jeckal. I am sure it is not running as the first thing I check is the active program list by pressing ctrl alt del. This evening, I try the solution given by Sxigh.

ZoneAlarm will not show up in the task list btw, you have to check the process list for zonealarm.exe.

it's the popup blocker. litestep and any popup blocker i've ever used don't work right because of their integration into explorer. go fig. i'm using zonealarm with xp and litestep and it works fine, but i don't have the popup blocker with it too.
