LiteStep at Startup is not working Thread last updated on 2003-02-28 18:58:59

Hello, Every time I reboot my computer, when the computer tries to load litestep it pops up a message saying, “file not found.” This is all that it says. Even the title bar is blank. Only gives me the option of clicking “ok.” This “file not found” results in nothing being loaded. All I am left with is a blank screen. No commands or anything works. When Crtl-Alt-Delete is performed the task manager does show LiteStep running, however nothing is loaded. Running Win98, I was able to bring back the shell explore.exe threw a couple of DOS commands. Yet, I sill can not figure out why this problem is occurring. Knowing only a little about litestep, I don’t know what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help…

take a look at the selected theme's .thm file and make sure it says step.rc

It does...

How about...reinstalling omar's installer, and make sure the litestep.exe file is where it's supposed to be (C:/Litestep/litestep.exe...for example.)

there's bound to be some sort of typo somewhere. post your ls-dir step.rc and which dir you've got it installed.
Also try looking at http://brembs.net and go through all the registry-entries.

The OTS step.rc or the Running Theme step.rc or the old LS step.rc, sorry...

c:\litestep\

rcStep "step.rc"; Added by LSTS
dirTheme "$LitestepDir$themes\simplicity\"; Added by LSTS
include "$dirTheme$$rcStep$" ; Added by LSTS

Posted by member 333 on 2003-02-28 04:29:12 link

it should just be the line in system.ini... shell=c:\litestep\litestep.exe

but I guess you've tried that...

you should go on irc.freenode.net in channel #litestep or #fpn and see if anyone's there to help out.

did you istall any StarDock software recently?

Posted by member 8168 on 2003-02-28 18:52:21 link

what is StarDock software?

Posted by member 31 on 2003-02-28 18:58:59 link

So have you run a virus scan recently? Networked computers, odd unexplained errors... Sounds like a possibility.

Otherwise, have you tried a clean install of litestep? Just rename your current install so you can restore it if needed.
