Popup2 requests Thread last updated on 2004-05-09 12:46:32

I have a few popup 2 requests.
First of all (and I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned before, but...), when you right-click to bring up the popup, and if something else is starting up, it will sometimes (usually) take focus, thereby closing out the popup. which gets REALLY annoying.
second, the ability to force a user to click to expand a popup level. for instance, in my popup I have a dynamicfolder entry pointing to a frequently used share on a local server. when I mouse over it, it takes a couple seconds for popup2 to read the directory, then open it. it would be really nice if I had to click on it (or double-click, or middle-click, or whatever) to open it. now, if this was a per-popup entry switch, and not a popup-wide command, that would be REALLY neat. but some users may like having it a popup-wide option as well.
ok, I think that's it. if these two requests could be done, I would REALLY REALLY appreciate it.

ooh, one more. for popup icons, another switch. this way, you don't need to have the popup display a folder icon if you don't want it, only for certain apps. or maybe for all apps, and not folders? I'm not exactly sure...something like that...I dunno, you get the general idea, I'm gonna go get a beer...

iirc
PopupFolderIcon .none

should work

thanks to your hint, I found it:
.icon=.none

Also, one more request. The abilty to do color saturation. Either built-in to popup2, or as a standalone module (though built-in would probably make more sense). I asked in irc, and no one knew of a separate module to do it or if popup2 could, so I'm asking here.

color saturation of what? i'm confused about that request.

I'm on a 5400 RPM HD, so I can feel Deuce's irritation with the waits. RAM I can spare (most of the time), and would love if it cached the folder info. If I'm doing anything else, I have to wait a second or two for the quicklaunch :).
As for the focus bit, I know that happens to any popup menus. However, being able to bring a popup up initially as pinned would be awesome.

(ack, school...not enough time for geekery)

You can bring up popup up initially as pinned, starting with 2.1.6. "!popup pin"

Euh! is there a way to get the width and height of a frst level popup, and dynamicaly, an mzscript var would do perfectly, I would like to know at any time te sise of the popup. Or else, an "PopupOnLeave action" would do.
The point is to close the popup when the mouse leaves it, in order to make popups that open and close alone (mouse over a shortcut opens the popup, mouse leaves the popup and the popup closes). I can do this with he hotspots, but only for fixed sise popups, else there is no way to make the "close hotspot" allwyas to cover the popup. Or you may know a way...

It'll be cool if the popup could be shaded and unshaded leaving only it's caption so you could move it around the desktop and shade/unshade it as you like.

yeah, I know that, but then I also have to CLOSE it. just one more annoyance... :(

Honestly I think that an entirely new popup implementation is what we really need, with multiple independent pinnable popups, fast system folder access, better mouse movement, more interaction options etc. I'm thinking of something somewhat nextstartish. Oh, and the ability to wharf modules would be hot shit.
Then you could actually make entire themes inside the popup.

A new popup would be grand. I have a sneaking suspicion it'd be difficult, as there has never, to my knowledge, been more than one in development at a given time.
