Hi everybody!
First of alle please excuse my bad english. (I`m from Germany)
I tried out Litestep but it works to slow. I don`t have enough RAM. Very sad ;(
Now that I uninstalled it, this membership is useless to me.
How can I withdraw now? Step out or however it`s called.
I hope you understand what I mean.
Thanks in advance!

I would say just stop posting and maybe tell DeViLbOi so he can remove you frome the password list. It shouldn't be that hard to do. I guss just stop coming here. And I am very sorry for your choice to stop using LS. Hope you reconsider someday and start using it again.

just a quick question really...how can you not have enough memory for LiteStep? I run LS on my mailserver and it only has 16M of RAM running Win95.

I was wondering the very same thing DeViLbOi. I use it on an old 486DX machine just so I can play with modifying it so if I do something wrong Im not messing with my good machine and don't have to reformate. But I guss he wouldn't lie to us so it must be a realy low end machine he has. Oh well It is probobly to late to change his mind now anyway.

he probably doesn't realize that different themes can use different amounts of ram. or maybe it's something completely different. cause if you're running windows already, running litestep shouldn't make any change in resource usage, except it could possibly be less.

How is that true deuce? Litestep uses ~20K with the default theme. There has to be some sort of resource being used.

I know StyleXP doens't use any after a theme is running, but if there is a way to get Litestep to not use any system resources, I'd really like to do it.

20k? dang mine right now is using 5k.

It was 17K actually, just rebooted and its at 14K now. I'm using the default theme.

My LS ranges between 8 and 30 depending on how it is feeling. :)

StyleXP certainly does use resources. It just uses resources that would be used by the standard windows skin anyway.

Litestep's memory usage depends on the theme you use. The default theme isn't exactly minimalistic.

I'd also like to see how you could get any program that actively does something (like displaying images on the screen) to not use any resources. We all could get rid of our RAM sticks with such a trick. :)

wow, your theme only uses ~20K?! I want it!! ;)

My lszygote theme which can be considere as a huge theme (timers, hotspots, everywhere) only use a maximum of 12Mb even after several days running.

If you want a very light shell... try liteshell

I've found LS to be much more reliable and deinetaly faster then explorer and MUCH faster then the bulked up themes of AstonShell.

How do you get these resource usage figures anyway? There somesort of LS specific program for that? Rainmeter?

The default windows taskmanager. But you should enable the display of other information

How can your themes only use 20k of memory, popup2.dll alone is larger than that?
I don't get it, what memory usage are you even talking about?

Posted by member 103254 on 2004-02-26 06:47:36 link

The memory usgae of the litestep.exe process. When they say 20k, they mean 20 000 kb. As for mine, it's using 9k. Theme "Thin" by Teschio.

mine is always around 14K ... no matter what theme i use...

14K!? You mean 14,000 bytes? 1% of what a floppy disk hold? The size of a text file containing roughly 3000 words (16000 characters)? You LS.exe memory usage is smaller than my Glaze ReadMe.html file (22KB)!!!

Mine uses 16-17MB. I believe LS alone (without any modules loaded) is 10MB on my system. 14K does not seem like a believable reading to me.

Hell, even Notepad.exe uses 4MB.
