With something like....

Jafo
martinp@smart.net.au

Cutter-Cogs
step.rc

Readmefirst.txt
Based on a Wall by BoXXi

stretch

and make sure the step.rc line isn't corrupted...and reads as above.

Are you sure you have a recent indiestep (litestep builds continued by an indepedent (but now close to semi-official) group) build?
Try updating it with a build from http://indiestep.sourceforge.net/

Hey, what is the theme you tried to install?
I recently tried a new theme, and it was doing the exact same bugs.
The theme was "tenebrae".
I use LS for 2 years now, on my WinXP laptop, and all is ok with my configuration (I even recently re-install everything with Omar's installer).

I guess the startup screen from Tenebrae doesn't run well on XP... THe only way to fix it is to :

1. call the Task Manager (ctrl+Shift+Escape)
2. Kill the process "Litestep" if it is running
3. Go to "File/New Task" and launch C:\Litestep\Litestep.Exe"
4. If it doesn't work (your programs load but no litestep on your desktop), go to "File/New Task" and launch C:\Litestep\lscp.exe
5. In the lscp window, choose "Theme Switcher" and double-click on the Simplicity entry.

You should have now your original Litestep theme :)

Hope it helps !

You get this problem if there is an error in the .thm file, which, I believe is an issue relating to the fact there are two theme switchers around...LSTS, and LSCP...one needs a .thm file to locate the theme's step.rc and the other doesn't.
Anyway...I use LSCP and a few of my OTS themes caused probs with some people because they were using LSTS....but the 'step.rc' line in the .thm file was 'altered' and the step could not load, therefore, no modules loaded.

Who said OTS was idiot-proof?...LOL
