run setshell.exe
It is part of your litestep install

And all that happened to you is a bad theme, you can switch themes easily as well: there is a shortcut in your LS folder named "Switch to default theme"
click on that and you have your theme back (austerity)

And if you don't know how to uninstall stuff on Windows, then Litestep is the least of your worries...

If wols' solution doesn't work...
I've had this occasionally in Win2k Pro, but could always get to the task manager, kill and restart Litestep, run explorer, etc.
Does ctrl+alt+F1 work? If Litestep is running, it should. Also, try ctrl-alt-del twice instead of once...I don't know if it does the same as Pro, but try it...you can run stuff from the real (NT/2k) task manager.
If the ctrl-alt-F1 menu comes up, go to run, and you have two basic options for getting things back:
1. Run regedit, then search the registry for litestep.exe. Hhen you hit an entry called "shell" under one of the xxx\Software\Microsoft\whatevers, that should be the one. Change it to explorer.exe (no path should be needed) and restart.
2. Run explorer, then in the listep\themes folder, open the file "themeselect.rc" with a text editor, and make it like this:
;------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; edit this evar to switch themes
;------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ThemeDir "$ThemesDir$NoteToSelf"

ok...now you have pissed me off. You step into the advanced world of PC Tweaking without any clue on how to fix it. I really don't care how pissed off people get about this flame and if you don't like it you can leave. For someone to not know how to Hit friggin Ctrl + Alt + Del and use a task manager, yet install a replacement shell, is friggin crazy. LiteStep is not an application for all users no matter how many people really want it to be. There are times you will get to points where you REALLY need to know how to use a PC. I feel bad for you...I really do...but you messed with something you really shouldn't have and got burnt.
