Recently I see somewhat of a boost in freeware programming and I wonder if this is linked to the delayed appearence of the next WinOS.

I think you forgot the fact that LS has been around for about 5 years. At the time Longhorn wasn't even an idea.

I wouldn't say so much that there is a boost just people have steadily maintained the freeware that they had created enhancing it and such... IMO LiteStep has come A LONG WAY just in the last year that I have been using it... especially, in terms of useability... things are so much easier now with the theme installers, and the litestep installer...

Maybe I was not clear enough. What I mean is that the number and frequency of contributions is (at least as I see it) increased at the moment, not only in litestep. I just wonder if this is due to the fact that it is more fun to write code that will be relevant for 3 or more years than to fear the OS update will make it obsolete very soon in some way.

LS will never become obsolete

People would have to give up the want to be able to freely change the way there computers look and opperate. That will never happen, It would be like giving up free will.
Microsoft rulz all systems. I can't see that and if it happend it would be a sad time for us all. That is why we need things like LS. ALL HALE LITESTEP!!!
