Ok I just got back in to litestep after two years. Much better and loads more stable. I still have the same problem though, and this is MS OS independant. When surfing with IE5+ and I click on a link that runs javascript(window.open) (something like that) to open a new window, two windows open the first is blank and the title is "about:" the second window contains the right data for the link. This really sucks 'cause you start filling up you task bar with dead windows. I'm sure somebody else has seen this, if so what did you do about it??
Thanks
Jason
Never had that issue with LS
Really? I had it with winnt4 ie5 and win2k ie5.5
Just updated to ie6sp1 so I'll see if it's still there.
Yep still there. Here's the code on the page:
here's the function:
function openspecies() {
window.open("","x",'toolbar=no,width=600,height=500, directories=no,status=no,scrollbars=yes, resize=yes,location=no,copyhistory=no');
}
and this is what I get:
click link -- two windows open -- first window has function settings applied and title reads about:blank -- second window has "metal", toolbars and such and it contains the page I'm trying to look at.
I've seen something like this before... on a friends computer, once it was ad-ware... the second time it was a really wierd virus that we found by going through his history... ( stupid Active X controls are sooo buggy )
You should try updating everything possible on your system. Install some kind of ad-aware program (
http://www.ad-aware.com ) and try updating your virus software if you have one... if you don't... GET ONE!
As a secondary note you could always download a sexy browser that blocks pop-ups alltogether like
Firebird and then you wouldn't have to worry about the issue entirely...
Although, if you read some of the posts there are some apparent display issues with this site and Firebird... but it's really the lesser of two evils... ( ie. moving to Firebird is worth it )
This isn't a "popup" problem. I have ad-aware and never had a virus. This is a ligit link in a web page that opens a small window for a species list. Check it out here:
http://www.njaquarium.org/an_exhibits.html
click on the link for Exhibit Animal List.
The window open but is blank then a second window is launched with the content in it.
it doesnt work right in ie for me either, but it works right in opera...
i'm getting the same issue, and i'm adware/spyware free, and fully updated running IE6 on 2K Pro
