the same way you always have?
Control Panel->Display Properties.
Since this is the forth or fifth thread I have read on this I must ask. Why is this concept so hard to understand? And why don't people try it before asking?
And why do people seem to think that installing Litestep changes the fundamental way that Windows functions?
Some themes (including my own) may set the wallpaper, overriding your wallpaper prefrence in Display Properties. The author should have provided instructions in the readme (or themevar.rc) file so you can specify your own wallpaper, or disable the functionality.
You disable the functionality by clicking...I mean come on. It don't get no easier
Dear DeVilbOi,
not all users are lusers.
In W2k if I go Control Panel-> Display Properties and browse it'll allow me to use any reandom picture file for wallpaper.
With the default theme from the newest litestep install, I can only use .bmp's(maybe) that are in the default list of pics in Display's properties.
Dear SamHacker2(there's more than one Sam Hacker????)
I am not sure how to get the default them of litestep to take any picture as its wallpaper, but I am continuing to RTFM. If I find anything I'll post here.

Providence: That is because all other image formats are part of the Active Desktop enviornment which is not part of LS. As for the second part...the theme.ini uses a LiteStep wallpaper changing module which means the image gets converted to BMP loading anything.
litestep under 9x/NT/2K can only use .bmp wallpapers. XP can use jpeg's as well. no way around that.

you're saying that while my installation of xp with litestep as shell doesn't allow me to set a jpeg as the background, it should?
I know how to get a jpeg set as a wallpaper on XP...but its not through the Display Properties thats for sure. And even at that, once it is set it is no longer JPEG but a BMP.
all I know is, I can set a jpeg as a wallpaper using display properties, right-click set as wallpaper, whatever. it works. it didn't on 2000. and even though when it's set as a wallpaper, it's converted to bmp, well, that's irrelevant. being ABLE to choose a jpeg as a wallpaper, that's the issue. if the system converts it to bmp, that's fine. just so long as I don't have to :)
