can i upload themes as 7-zip archives? I have only 26.4kbps and upload zip it's too slow.

heh, no. http://www.7-zip.org Very nice (although lacking on UI) util. It also supports its own 7z compression format which has a higher compression ratio than zip does. And so he wants to use it becuase his upload time would be faster (smaller file). Litestep.net only supports .zip files.

Is it better than bzip2? (in terms of compression ratio, not necessarily speed)

All set to maximum compression:

austerity.zip 408KB
austerity.tar.bz2 375KB
austerity.7z 358KB

I found a http://www.izsoft.dir.bg/izarc.htm that has a better GUI and works with .7z files, although I haven't checked to see if it compresses the same. There are a couple of annoying things with that too, though...

a zip probem is, that it doesn't compress the files correctly even on highest compression.
a samll tip is, zip the file, rename it to lsz and zip it again. I saw it first on compressing gathering. normal zip 3.3 mb, again compressed 2.2 mb
