Windows 98 shutdown problem (not Litestep related) Thread last updated on 2003-12-02 06:45:12

Hey,

I was tweaking my roommates' Win 98 computer the other day, and messed up the shutdown process. When I go to "Shutdown", the computer restarts rather then shutting down. Normally, this computer requires you to turn the power off manually: "It is now safe to turn off your computer...". However, I believe I enabled "Fast Shutdown" some how, and I am assuming this is cause of the problem.

I can't remember what App. I used to enable this feature, but I tried to turn it off with FreshUI (the latest version), and it will not allow me to turn it off. I believe it is because this "tweak" is restricted to Win98SE+ users in FreshUI. Does anyone know of any other tweaking apps which would allow me to fix this?

Also, any other possible causes incase this is not the cause? Thanks guys!

iirc Win98 has an app called "msconfig" which allows you to toggle "fast shutdown".

ilmcuts: Yep, that's the stuff... I always forget about that lil app... shame it isn't called "winconfig" or something similar; I'm sure many people would like to reconfigure Micro $oft. ;) Anyways, msconfig is what I used to enable Fast Shutdown initially, so now it's fixed. thanks homeboy.
