Litestep freezes on boot Thread last updated on 2003-11-18 10:07:44

I just started using litestep again after some time away. I'm using the lsinstaller 3.02 and when ever I boot up and load into an account with ls set as the shell, it loads up, shows the desktop, the bar, etc, and will let me move the mouse, but it won't respond to clicking or most shortcuts. I can use ctrl+alt+f1, but recycle and quit don't work. I can forcibly terminate litestep, then use the taskman to load it again, and it loads up fine and responds normally. Any ideas what would cause this?

i'd try using updatebuild to patch your litestep core to 24.7 beta 4.

a few boot process things changed with RC1 (which comes with lsInstaller 3.02), which iv'e heard might cause this.

check out http://leaf.terica.net/litestep.html
just download the beta4 zip, then point updatebuild.exe to it.

or copypaste the url in updatebuild.

also, rabidvwm seems to have a bug that has this effect. rabidcow (the last i've heard) can hide the effect, but not yet fix it. so, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until his genius takes control and comes up with the solution. :P

Software conflict in some strange way, perhaps? It could mess things up...

software conflict .. hmm.

now that i re-read this issue, it reminds me of a bug i have. if foobar2000 is the first app i load (through a hotkey), it'll freeze ls. if anything else loads before it though, all is fine.

try cutting back your startup items; maybe even deleting some stuff from your registry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
