Drop Box Thread last updated on 2003-11-13 16:38:06

I'd like to see a module which uses another loaded module as the drop box. For example, a user could drag a file to the taskbar, and the file would be opened. Or a user could drag a file to the Winamp Control/Display module, and the file would be added to the playlist.

Or maybe someone could suggest a way that you could do this with one of the Drop Box modules which are already available(would using a Magic Pink image work; would the drop box register the drop if the entire image for the module was Magic Pink).

this is what subclass.dll is working towards but dosn't have drop functioality yet you need to give ilmcuts a good push in ths direction

i believe the latest taskbar3 has drag&drop support.

as for the playlist, doesn't label.dll support actions for drag&drop?

label, layercut, shortcut3 (not sure) and lsbox3 (not sure) have drop support. I'm using label and layercut fine since a year !

Would shortcut3/label/layercut still register the drag-drop if the image was entirly transparent(magic pink)?

You can drag&drop an EXE file (possibly TXTs as well) onto your vwm and the app will be opened in that window... depending on your VWM module. :P For other cases you'll need to use labels or other modules. ;)
I wish I had more time for subclass, but my day only has 24 hours. :(

i know what you mean ilmcuts, 24 hours just isn't enough.

stupid planet .. rotate slower! ;P

@Liquid Circuit: depending of the module. I guess layercut will not react if you drop stuff on transparent area (I could be wrong) but label will since it uses a kind of fake transparency.
These modules have "real" drag'n'drop feature; I mean you can really do what you want with droped files; not just open it :)

I don't think it's possible for magic pink to work the way you want. You might be able to get away with something that supports alpha transparency and setting the alpha channel to 1 for everything, but then the stuff beneath wouldn't get mouse clicks either.

Most likely you need either something like subclass or native support in the module itself.

RabidCow: Since I'm running Win98, no alpha trans for me :)

Smurth: Thanks, I'll have to give label a try. Right now I'm using shortcut's drag and drop(opaque of course), but it would be great if I could get label to work the way I want.

There's no reason you couldn't. I made this with transparent labels long time ago with my "desktopian" theme

Excellent, I'll have to give'er a try when I get some free time; this whole university thing is taking up too much time. ;)
