LSCP, I miss you.... Thread last updated on 2003-11-13 23:32:05

What happened to LSCP? It magically disappeared after I updated to a newer build one time (can't remember which build). I'm currently running 0.24.6 beta 4 I believe, using Omar's 3.0 installer (also unsure of installer version, as I am not on my computer at the moment).

Anyway, I use to use LSCP on a regular basis to check module version numbers, bangs loaded, to switch themes, etc. I would also keep it open while I was doing things that could spontaneously kill/lock litestep so I could relaunch litestep or explorer if need be. For some reason I prefer not to keep an Explorer window open for this purpose...

lscp used a lot of functions in litestep that were removed during the code cleanup in .24.7, so it would need to be pretty much rewritten to get it to work. if you update your build again, the !about box will give you a lot of that information, like loaded modules, bangs, etc

to switch themes, you can use omar's theme installer ($LitestepDir$utilities\LSThemeInstaller.exe), or just double click on the .lsz file

and as for keeping something open in case of litestep problems, i havent ever found a situation where CTRL+ALT+F1 didnt bring up litestep's recovery menu, and if you are on win2k or xp, you can just CTRL+ALT+DEL and run commands from there

nope, Win98SE for me...

Thanks for the explanation tho, exactly what I was looking for. :)

...and you can open module's dll with the notepad to see undocumented bangs and settings >)

hmm, what can I open the .dll's with? This sounds like fun!

{edit} Nevermind, I'm an idiot. ;)

the 24.7 !about box lists most module versions and !bangs..

I just updated to 24.7, and it's really nice to have a usable about box. That was exactly what I needed! But of course, never satisfied, I now wish that you could execute bangs from the !about box. ;) oh well, its nice to know that now there really isn't any obvious ugliness to Litestep. The old about box really bothered me for some reason, I guess I always thought there should/would be more info. And LSCP had many-a-problem of its own.

if you open (let says) systray2.dll with notepad, you will see never-documented rc settings that you'll never see in the about box (like systrayonmouseenter/leave)
popup2 have some usefull undocumented features, too :)

2Smurth: sources are much better than binaries %)

What's the story with the !about box?
When I type in !about I get a useless looking little dialogue box saying

LiteStep 0.24.7 Beta 4
Beta release

Build Date: Sep 5 2003
Website TBA

OK

It doesn't tell me anything about bangs or modules :(
I thought I had the latest version, but maybe I don't. It says there 24.7 Beta 4, 5th September. Is that the latest? I used Omar's installer...

The latest is "RC1". The first Indie LS builds had a huge about box which allowed you to execute !bangs, unload modules, and some other stuff I forgot. But it got waaay too bloated. So the core about box will pretty much stay as it currently is. However, RC1 includes a new lsapi export which makes it possible to write modules which offer extended about-boxes.

@inform-sega: I didn't thought about it; thanks

Smurth: I tried to look at a couple of the modules (the dll's) with notepad, and I just got a bunch of garbage with readable text sparatically (!sp!) placed throughout. And I've been looking through the most recent popup's source, looking for (any) bangs; can't seem to find any. I'm sure they are there, but I have yet to look through every single file included (most tho).

spiritofcat: in your litestep\utilities directory, you should have a program called updatebuild.exe... run that

Posted by member 7223 on 2003-11-13 23:17:10 link

openeing dll with notepad should be done with word wraping enabled... and the rc setting are usually stored near the end of the file

even easier: analogx textscan lets you see all of the info without having to wade through lots of garbage, and it allows things like easy searching
