Really slow right click menus in explorer Thread last updated on 2003-11-10 10:30:57

Has anyone else have this problem? I right click on a file in explorer and sometimes the system slows to a crawl, I mean a jerky mouse movement crawl. It speeds up again if I click elsewhere to close the window. Other than this little annoyance my litestep experience thus far has been fantastic, I don't think I'll ever go back to windows shell.

is this happening on xp with sp1 installed? if that's the case, it's an os bug, not ls. it's been posted here some time ago.

hm
this sounds like a quirk i noticed when beta testing win2k3.

if you do a little registry editing, and change the MenuShowDelay value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop to 0, then menus will take an obscene amount of time to load. a value of 10 (or higher, naturally) gets rid of this lag and makes the setting act as it should - reducing the usual 4 second delay when hovering over menu trees.

give it a try.
worst comes to worst it won't fix anything (or break anything, i garuantee :)

Hmm, I think that worked! I'm still having problems with it in Network Connections, but I think that's because I somehow fried netshell.dll ;(. Oh well, my menus are fixed elsewhere. Thanks!
