I used LiteStep in the past and gave up on it, not because I don't like LiteStep or it was too hard, I didn't have time to learn it.

I have time now.
So when I come back I find all these new great things... but the System Monitor Modules are all gone.

Will the new LiteStep Distros be able to use the older modules that I can harvest from old themes?

you should use the updated version of the modules, and for system monitor there's rainmeter.
