I used LiteStep a long while ago (a year plus now), and was wondering how well is its compatibility with XP and gaming? It didnt use to have any problems - just making sure it still doesnt thank you.

works perfectly with xp, and the latest beta hides all modules when a full-screen app (like a game) is detected.

i believe hiding modules for games is only required if they're set to be 'always on top', right?

for this reason, i avoid using 'always on top' settings in my themes. :)

sryo's right though, and you can also manually execute '!hidemodules' to hide all modules, and '!showmodules' to show them.

the default theme (austerity) included with the litestep installer should be just fine for gaming LiquidInferno. This will be something that will vary from one theme to the next though, but you do always have the option of hiding and showing the modules in problematic themes.

Can anyone tell me the status on the 'WindowsXP logon not working with LiteStep' problem? Has it been fixed/worked around or ...?

Posted by member 1316 on 2003-10-28 08:10:50 link

well, it's always worked. technically. it just causes the logon process to take a couple minutes, instead of a couple seconds. and, no, I don't believe it's been fixed yet (haven't heard anything about it at least).

To bad :(
Thanx anyway. If anyone knows I'd love to know :)

Well the "fix" is to either press ctrl-alt-del when the welcome screen appears or to use the classic logon. It's a problem all alternative shells seem to suffer from, we're still looking into it. But without any documentation it may take a while.

No, the problem is that it's not my own PC, I can't just switch the logon mode, the rest of my family wouldn't really appreciate that...
So until then: No LiteStep for me :(
(I had it running on my P100 for a while, but it just didn't work.)

the logon mode will not permanently switch that way (or shouldn't). It should just change it for that time.

Erm... you can still press ctrl-alt-del in that case... no reason to ditch LS ^_^
