can't get any system tray module to work Thread last updated on 2003-10-14 11:58:30

I have tried 3 of them (including vtray) and I simply cannot get the tray to display. In every single theme that I try it in, no matter where in the rc file I put it (even at the very end of the loadmodule lines), all it ever shows is a blank box with no icons in it.

Can anyone offer some other suggestions? I'm new to Litestep, but I've read through some of the docs and forums on related issues (which is what prompted me to change the order it was loaded in), but haven't found anything that worked.

try to run as few programs as possible Mark, one of them might be interfering with the tray.

i mean startup programs or tray-based or tray-related utilities, not regular applications. ;)

samurize, and stardock's trayserver.exe have been known to cause problems.

Have you ever installed DesktopX or something similar? That would install the trayserver.exe Omar mentioned. Those stardock apps will leave the trayserver on your system even if you uninstall them.

Interesting. Yes, I have installed DesktopX, though I'm not running it at the moment. Checking through the files that load at startup, I do see trayserver.exe in there. Can I just take that entry out? What else will that affect?

it shouldn't affect anything, just remove it ;)
