I've recently gone from windows to linux, and i think i'll probably stay. One of the main theings that i have found lacking are the standard linux window managers (same idea as a windows shell).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which of the other window managers i should look at if i want the same modularity and customizability as litestep?
enlightenment or windowmaker... but i haven't been under linux since a while.
i'm looking at the themes for both window maker and enlightenment and they all have the same layout, just with different colors and images. none of that LS configure-it-all-ability.
let this be a lesson kids: don't get hooked on litestep and then go change your OS.
I hear that FVWM2 is really great, though takes a lot of time and energy to set up well.
Personally I let Linux do the serving, ircing and console stuff it does best (using PuTTY to ssh into my little Linux-box) - Windows and Litestep seem unbeatable for desktop use.
Orpheus: most of the time, themes for linux window managers only change popup's looking and few other things.
In fact, window managers such as windowmaker or enlightenment are really powerfull, but you'll have to put your hands into the dust to be able to do something special...
but you can :)
The only missing part (as far as I know) is the ability to use application's icon automatically. Don't wish to use an iconed taskbar, for example; unless you manually define all icon the taskbar should use...
linux or any unix environment is great for me. I personally like fluxbox (fluxbox.sf.net). Im also looking at the new gnome, enligthenment and the xfce.
Make sure to custimize the all the themes.
