2 Probs, Video and New Files Thread last updated on 2003-11-02 08:04:09

I have two problems that I've yet to figure out or find the answer to online by searching.

1) The big one is when opening any video, Media Player or RealPlayer, my whole computer locks up. Sound continues to play, but video is stuck. If I logon as another user who has explorer as the shell, video works fine.

2) When creating new files or folders, instead of them coming up right away with me being able to change the name, they come up real slow, and I have to click on them to rename (or refresh then click). Again, in explorer shell all is fine.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Doh, forgot to say the specifics. Win2000, Nvidia card.

I have the exact same problem, the video screen just goes black but sound works, I'm running W2k and I've got an nVidia card me too (pattern starts to appear!?). Can someone please help, it's really frustrating.

1 - i think i remember reading somewhere that this happens if the bottom left pixel of your screen is transparent... i cant remember where i saw that though

1) I will check on the pixel thing

2) I can't get the stupid shell32.dll to replace in win2000. I've tried their methods, I've tried making sure explorer's not running, and I've tried Microsoft's inuse.exe program.

The pixel thingy is about not putting a transparent window in 0,0. Here is a related LSML post.

I'm not sure it is wise to replace DLLs with older ones - M$ probably has a reason to update stuff, especially if the thing has broken down due to a 'critical update'.

In my case, a change of filemanaged did the trick, and since Explorer ain't that great anyway, you may get a win-win deal.

well... it will still happen if you try to mess around with renaming stuff in file->open or save dialogs... thats the part that bothers me, since i do that a lot
