Hey guys.

I was curious if I could get some guidence on this subject. I am starting a lan-center with 20 computers and I do not want people dinking aroud with stuff. I have nettime software and there is an option to load up another shell other than explorer. I want it to load something up where there are just simple icons on the desktop of the different games, and they can only double click on them. There is no start menu, no taskbar, nothing that would help people screw up the computers. :) Thanks for any advice!

You could make a simple theme with no popup and only have shortcut.dll, that would be easy.

youd have to have a way to disable ctrl+alt+del though, and they would still be able to get into things through ctrl+alt+f1, although not many of them would know about that

he can build ls again with no menu, or reshack it

That would probably be harder stuff than hes willing to try on his own. I know i pry wouldnt mess with it without proper help or knowlege.

the ctrl+alt+del options at least can be disabled using group policies on either win2k or winxp. you may even be able to disable ctrl+alt+del, I can't remember for sure.

You could use a fileprotecting program and restrict access to taskmanger.exe or whatever.

you could do it with icondesk and the above tricks. saving you the time of making gfx for the games. heck i could bang out a theme like that in min or two. you would have to still do file protection/ctrl-alt-del problem but the theme is easy.

not sure if you can disable ctrl+alt+del, but you can restrict access to the taskmanager. The computers at my college do it. My best guess, as deuce said, would be it's probably something in the group policies.

If you're running XP Professional or 2000 then simply create a user account with very limited priveleges. Then they can't screw anything up. Of course you can still use LS to only show then what they need to see.
