Best Taskbar module Thread last updated on 2003-08-18 11:26:26

I would prefer these features:
- ontop mode adjustable via bangs
- original windows-like resizing bars with text

Haven't found any stable one (taskbar3 seems to be a bit buggy) which would sport those.
Is there any?

tasks.dll doesnt come with resizing bars, but you could make them resize with scripts (link), and it is stable

dunno :) taskbar3 should be the best one. of course u could try taskbar.dll which is a core module. it has less features but it should be much more stable ;)

Taskbar is buggy yes, but it is often a matter or setup. Try some different themes that uses it and see if you can find one where the taskbar works. Then copy & paste the settings from that theme and edit to suit your needs. Remember not to remove any lines even if your value is the same as default for that setting. Eg, if you don't want the taskbar ontop, write:

TaskbarAlwaysOnTop False

etc. even if removing the line would have the same effect. I don't know why this has any effect but I've found that this works for me for some reason. The mouse button actions are especialy sensitive about this if I remember correctly.

yes the mouse thing was a problem in previous versions but .305 fixed that :)

I don't know if this happens only in my themes, but taskbar3 have some problems with 024.7,(all beta versions), but it works great with 024.6.

my $0.02: i'm running taskbar3v.305 on 24.7b3 with no problems.

I'm running Taskbar3 v.306alpha2 (which I believe is the latest, though Jesus_mjjg hasn't updated his site in forever, so I can't be sure), works perfectly in 24.7(b3).

Try Loose-screws.com?
EDIT:Bleagh just checked for myself, they only have .305

Oh well. Taskbar3 v.305 is not working for me with the 24.7 betas. I have tried to look what other people done to have it working and that didn't help. Maybe it's a problem when running taskbar3 in 24.7 and my Win ME.

Hi all, and thanks for the interest you put into this module.
Here's the latest update (docs included) i have (i'm running it fine under Windows 2000 SP4, Litestep 0.24.7 beta 3).
http://users.skynet.be/fa052720/tmp/taskbar3-0.306alpha3.zip
This should be the last build for the 0.3xx serie ... hopefully you'll get a (nearly) brand new module for september.

Thanks a lot Jesus_mjjg. I have used the .305 version with LS 024.6 and I'm quite satisfied with it. It works great with the systray2 and when the 024.7 betas was released it stops working for me. I hope this new build works just the way the past versions do, cause I think this module is a must have for Litestep.

jesus: is there a changelog somewhere and i'm just missing it?

Posted by member 39 on 2003-08-15 10:46:02 link

namaide: there's no changelog, this should just correct some problems with taskbar3. Also, it seems that some people were missing the 0.306 ones, so this should help correct those things. Thanks for the blizzle post, by the way :)
Also, i COULD release a version that has true transparency support, but that takes a lot of CPU usage. I could add a setting like TaskbarUseTransparency to toggle it.

Unfortunetly taskbar3-0.306alpha3 it's not working for me either. I'll play with it a little more tonight and see if I can find something I have done wrong or if there's something I must change to make it work with 024.7.

Posted by member 39 on 2003-08-15 16:11:27 link

Al: right, i think i see what the problem is: task button are either not showing or not disappearing properly (icon and text disappear, but the button itself is still there). If that is your problem, then i think i know what the problem is: with 0.24.6 and 9x, there once was that problem, which has later been fixed; it seems 0.24.7 still has that bug.

Posted by member 94 on 2003-08-15 16:58:55 link

Yes, that's exactly the problem I got when I run the module with 024.7. I hope you can fix this when you release the final version. I'm gonna delay the making of a new theme and the update of my older ones until the module works with 024.7.
Thanks

Jesus_mjjg, toggled true transparency sounds good. It'll be the first taskbar module (that I know of) to make use of it. I'd like to see that feature.

Posted by member 7223 on 2003-08-16 00:41:14 link

Some good fake transparency should be nice, too :)

Posted by member 39 on 2003-08-16 03:01:34 link

Al: the problem lies in 0.24.7 then: i need to tell the devs (ilmcuts ... he's on holiday right now) about it. Please, be patient.
Mear|in: tasks.dll already has it :)
Smurth: why would someone want fake transparency ?

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-08-16 03:50:22 link

fake transparency is good sometimes, becuse it consumes less resource (i think). anyways real transparency isn't needed always cause fake does the job very well.

Posted by member 7223 on 2003-08-16 13:19:19 link

Fake transparency allow user to activate the "thing" by clicking in the void

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-16 15:28:02 link

I like the void because I like being able to get to my popup menu when im browsing without having to un-maximize.

Jesus_mjjg I have reported this to ilmcuts when beta1 and beta2 were released, don´t know if he have received my email though. Anyway, I´ll wait til the next 0.24.7 version came out and see if taskbar3 works. Thanks a lot.

Posted by member 56818 on 2003-08-18 10:28:25 link

on jesus' taskbar: transparency is definitly a must.. and cpu cycles are there to be used!

curiously, never realised the taskbar didn't feature it until my latest theme was made impossible by this limitation. i for one will be waiting for that version impatiently!

off topic: since ls2k's end i've been a lost, lonely ls user (tears and stuff). feels good to find a community that discusses these issues again. and when do we get that final 24.7 =)?

Posted by member 534 on 2003-08-18 11:26:26 link

When it's ready :) ilmcuts deserved a break and we'll likely see things moving along as Summer has come to an end.
