I just installed Litestep. I wish I could say which version, but unfortunately in my haste to install it I read none of the documentation and seem to have myself in a very deep problem. When Windows XP boots, I get the litestep wallpaper but nothing else. No taskbar, nothing. No keys whatsoever will work except for ctrl-alt-delete which allows me to restart. Rebooting does nothing. I really need some help here, as I have lost all access to my PC. I am typing online now because luckily the AOL companion still pops up (it is the ONLY thing that pops up) and I can get online, but the rest of my system is totally inaccessible. When I first rebooted a single explorer browser popped up with a general Litestep introduction. I tried using some of the keyboard commands to do this or that but they don't work. Can someone tell me how to boot Windows XP and disable Litestep?

Thank you and PLEASE help.

By the way ctrl-alt-F1 does not work. In my Task Manager I see that Explorer is not running whatsoever.

Before anyone flames you for not reading documentation, I'll go out on a limb and help you.

Right now the only thing you need to do is forget about litestep for a while untill you've read enough that you'll know what it is your going to do.

To fix your current situation, when you press ctl-alt-delete, check your processes to see if litestep.exe is running. If it is, end that task.
After you end any instance of litestep.exe running on your system, do not exit out of your task manager(the ctl-alt-delete window). In that window, go to FILE/NEW TASK(run).
You'll then get a run box that will pop up. In that run box simply type in EXPLORER.EXE and press enter.
That will start up your normal explorer shell with your taskbar, start menu, etc..

After you get that all done, keep in mind the next restart, you'll probably have to do it all over agian untill you find out what type of litestep you installed, what theme your running, and READ! I can't stress that enough, READ untill your eyes bleed!

Everything I've just typed out has been talked about 100+ times and most litestep users are really sick of people jumping into Litestep without reading or knowing what they are doing.

READ! Did I mention that yet? READ!

After you read you should be able to figure out what you've done wrong and fix it. Or at least be able to ask more dirrect questions that people will actually take the time to answer.
GL and have fun. If you take your time, you'll probably learn alot more than just being able to use litestep.

First. Your windows IS running, your whole OS IS accessible and nothing is lost. I know people who use their computer with just the !Run -dialog. :)

So.
You can always use the taskmanager to run your browser and regedit. Then the 'net is full of documents on what to do in order to restore Explorer as the shell. For example this forum contains multiple instances of links to them.

Read the IMPORTANT -topic on the top of this forum and restore the lines mentioned there (more specifically, just the shell -line).

remember that 9x and any NT based systems are different as to where the shell is loaded? 9x in the system.ini and registry in nt based stuff.
