i know that some people have trouble to use McaFee VirusScan in litestep because its activate like a common user without admin permisions.
what kind of antivirus of low resources do you
recoment to use with litestep?
(or what kind of fix can do to didn't have the
mcafee virusscan problem)
i use norton antivirus but it's not low on resources at all :P
Bleagh i also use norton, i would like to switch but mcaffee has let me down in the past and i dont trust the power of the free virus scanners :(
I use norton at work. I hate it, but it's company mandated, so i have no choice. I used to swear by mcafee, but I haven't used it in so long, I have no idea if the current version is any good.
i use avg, only because it is free, but it works
I use kaspersky... but I heard F-Secure was a good product, too.
and the last version of Norton I've tested (2001 or 2002) was eating over 20% CPU (Athlon 18000XP) when logged with admin priviledges. It eat almost nothing when logged as a low-priviledges user. I guess it's not working right in that case.
And, most important, it doesn't detect all viruses
I dont think any of the virus scanners detect ALL viruses, if you know of one, tell me :)
@Smurth : Athlon 18000XP *lol* i need one of these *lol* :P
i just downloaded AVG antiviral and its really good
just use 2417KB of memory instead of the 30MB of mcafee or
panda antiviral :)
but i didn't test yet if will desinfect some virus :P
I use AVG from grisoft. It's free, lean, and mean. Works great.
AVg does poorly in tests.
Kaspersky is the best, norton is a marketing gimmick.
I think it greatly depends on which OS you use.
what's kaspersky's average resource usage like?
Kaspersky use about 7MB and 1% CPU (Monitor enabled)...
Of course, like any other anti-virus, it significaly slowdown your computer when you browse your HD and open files
I use Norton, I havn't had any problems with it and I've never had a Virus infect my computer. To lower CPU usage just lower the Auto-Protect bloodhound level to Lowest and make sure to do a Manual scan atleast once a week, I use Norton Utilities 2003 and it does an autocheckup every friday night about 9pm... but you can schedual it for whenever. But I like Norton a lot, has always worked for me and I've never had any problems. Plus, I do computer repair and do a lot of virus removal for people, works like a champ for me with the latest virus definitions.
that's right :) haven't had any viruses with norton either :)
of course u still have to keep windoze up to date (/me hinting at Blaster). That Blaster was good for me actually. Had to repair quite many computers and earned some money :)
i got norton AV corporate, mandated by virginia tech. i got it for free. it uses like 1% cpu, i don't even notice it. frankly, i don't know if it's even working. i never use it to scan. i have downloaded some files and norton put them in quarantine, so i guess it does work.
I recently downloaded a trial version of
eTrust EZ Antivirus and it seems alright. Unlike some virus scanners this one does one job and one job only. I like this as other virus scanners I have tried got in the way with firewall features and blocking my e-mail attachments.
i tested for a long time the AVG antiviral
look cool but yesterday i check my computer with Panda Antivirus and i found 3 viruses in my computer.
was virus inside of java applets . i know that is not too
much but AVG didnt detect them.
ill test avg for more time activating the euristic environment. then ill post the results
