More questions about litestep. Thread last updated on 2003-07-29 01:17:17

Well, maybe to some people's surprise, I have read through the stickied tutorial and the rest of the stickies. I have yet to read the readme.txt because I have not downloaded the program.

I'm really curious about Litestep. I'm using some Stardock stuff right now on WinXP Pro. From what it seems like, litestep is a bit more complicated.

I've read through why NOT to get litestep... but:
Why SHOULD I get litestep on winXP pro?
I read about how it saves resources, and can skin the desktop. What I'd like to know is how much it saves?

Another question is how compatible is it with programs, games, etc.?
Do people ever run into problems with overlay issues? video displays? etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

"... and can skin the desktop"
LS doesn't "skin" the desktop. It is used to create a custom desktop.

"What I'd like to know is how much it saves?"
Depends on the theme you run. If you're running WinXP then I doubt you should be too concerned about the amount of resources LS will use.

"Why SHOULD I get litestep..."
You should get LS if you want a shell you can customise to work the way you want it too.

"Do people ever run into problems with overlay issues?"
Yes, with full screen applications. But there are work arounds. I have a hotkey setup to hide my theme before playing some games. LS doesn't effect how your programs will run.

"video displays?"
Many themes aren't designed to work well with multi-monitors but otherwise there are no issues with video displays.

From what I can tell the multi-monitor issue was resolved awhile ago, just a matter of modding the theme you want to use.
