I was just thinkin it's be kinda cool to maybe do something different, which is why i'm hoping that no-one votes for #4.

Posted by member 602 on 2003-07-15 06:46:52 link

Why does it always say "you have already voted" ??? Nevermind, Seems like the theme thing is wining. So how do you chop a theme in 50,000 pieces for everyone to work with...

Why does it always say "you have already voted" ???

well maybe it's a bug!? anyone else experiencing this?!

Edit: well, I did a check and it showed that you have indeed already voted in this poll, so now you know why!

Posted by member 3116 on 2003-07-15 10:27:50 link

Well Milk, i was thinking maybe find out who wants to do it, and break it down in to individual parts. You're not going to have 50,000 poeple working on it, as you can see there's only 3 poeple who want to work on a theme so far, so even if it's only 10-15 people you could have someone program some new modules, or some new funtionality in existing moduels, or whatever it is that the coders are willing to do, we can make a LS installer, because there's like what, 3 different installers, right? and the world can always use another installer. That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure that if we put some thought into it, we can think up some more ideas.

Posted by member 1316 on 2003-07-15 10:42:28 link

uh, why would you need another installer if there's already 3? And I only know about 2, omar's, and Ez2install (I think it's something like that).

Posted by member 1316 on 2003-07-15 10:43:55 link

tux, if you hit "View results only (null vote)", then you can't submit an actual vote. I just did, not realizing this, and now I can't vote!! :(

Posted by member 3116 on 2003-07-15 10:49:55 link

We can include the latest distro, mebbe include coding to auto check for lsdistro updates. That way you KNOW you have the latest version.

I want a big party. I'm good at DJ'ing and I can play about 20 hours of Ninja Tunes

sounds good smurth. I'm assuming you'll be buying plane tickets for everyone then? ;)

Just a shoutcast stream maybe, yeah, a party w/o having to meet anyone

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-07-15 14:08:20 link

i want a party!!!
let's go to hawaii or smth :D

eh...well then in that case, it's a feature and not a bug ... null vote means you're casting a "blank" vote ... that way you can't cheat before voting.

Posted by member 1 on 2003-07-15 18:01:02 link

yah...no pushing up the most popular to go with the flow. Knowing the current votes before you vote does not help anything.

Posted by member 28413 on 2003-07-15 21:16:26 link

what?! no all of the above option ^_^

Posted by member 14785 on 2003-07-15 21:38:58 link

you can't do number four and any combo of the first three

Posted by member 602 on 2003-07-17 04:52:26 link

If it's going to be the theme thing and only like five work on it it would be a little hard to call it a "gathering of the ls.net minds" theme. But we could have yet another poll where people could wish for things and we will end up with the fatest and funkyest theme ever. Then like three guys could put it together. One for the scripting, one for the graphics and one for some general leader role. That would be like, ehh, very good. I don't know...

Posted by member 602 on 2003-07-17 04:53:05 link

Can't we do everything?

Posted by member 1316 on 2003-07-17 12:01:27 link

I like milk's suggestion. :P

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-07-17 21:40:38 link

You could have a thread and just have people propose ideas, vote on them, then work together to implement them. Not everyone has to WORK on it but they could help with producing it by giving code ideas and examples. Lets make a theme, :-)

Posted by member 602 on 2003-07-19 11:36:26 link

I'm just afraid that if everybody gets to wish then the theme will get a gazillion features or something like that. But of course we could make it modular or use dynamic loading of modules. There are cons though. Modularity more or less means that you have to group things and dynamicnes (that is a word now I've heard) might be somewhat buggy for some maybe. I've never heard of a theme that uses it to any great extend, other than one that I'm working on now but it's not released, so that would require some testing.

Or we could of course just pick the ten most wanted features or something like that, but that would be to plain and simple.

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-07-19 12:29:51 link

And we would have to find some people to actually do it all :-0

Posted by member 2112 on 2003-07-19 18:12:02 link

"I'm just afraid that if everybody gets to wish then the theme will get a gazillion features"

Yes, I can see it now...

"You know that little ball you put on the aerial so you can find your car in a parking lot? That should be on every car ... And some things are so snazzy they never go out of style! Like tail fins! And bubble domes! And shag carpeting! I want a horn here, here and here. You can never find a horn when you're mad. And they should all play 'La Cucaracha'."

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-07-20 03:29:38 link

LOL :D
i repeat, LOL ;)

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-07-20 10:03:52 link

Your horrible.

Posted by member 602 on 2003-07-21 06:38:06 link

I would do it...

Posted by member 1365 on 2003-07-30 20:25:24 link

what about a theme with many themes. easily done with scripting.

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-07-30 21:40:55 link

Lets atleast try, weve got someone who has volunteered to do all the actual building. Thanks milk :)

Posted by member 602 on 2003-07-31 03:28:00 link

No problemo. Just want to warn everyone that when I say that I will do something in one certain amount of time it usually takes two amounts of time.

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-08-03 11:25:20 link

i'd like to help too :) but have that time issue too :D anyways it would be cool to make such a theme :)

Posted by member 32550 on 2003-08-03 12:58:45 link

I'd like to help theming too, and I have the time to do :D

but as you sure know.... I cant't work with grapfics *gg* but on coding, it's much .... MUCH more better *lol* :D

Posted by member 602 on 2003-08-03 14:01:04 link

Well lets just hope we get 5000 more subscribers soon then so we can get going. I figure it will take 4 to do this one. One for the graphics, one for the coding, one for the readme, one for general leadership, and of course, 50.000 for the ideas.
I'm best with graphics myself, so that's the part I would most like to work with, but I could do them all if neccessary.

I'll start thinking about how this should be done. Once we reach 50.000 I will mail all interested on how we should proceed (if no one has any better idea by the time). The plan I have at the moment is to post polls on which type of theme it should be. When that is decided there should be a poll on what it should contain and so on. Just so we start in the right end.

Posted by member 602 on 2003-08-03 14:02:49 link

I hope that post didn't give everyone the impression that I'm going for the leadership role. Just some ideas...

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-03 22:55:56 link

We have 3 capable people already volunteering, i think it might work :-P

Posted by member 32550 on 2003-08-04 07:54:30 link

I can do the coding stuff :)

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-08-04 08:19:36 link

i could do everything (except module-coding) :)
@milk: if you need any help with graphics i'm all yours

anyway i could do the readme and/or scripting stuff :)

Posted by member 602 on 2003-08-04 14:04:48 link

Seems like all of us can do everything. So when do we start. Should we wait until the magic 50.000 or should we get going earlier?

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-08-04 14:20:03 link

dunno, actually it would be great if we could finish it by the time the magical 50.000 tho i don't know if that's possible. the number of users grows so rapidly that it would be hard. anyway why not give it a try and start now :)

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-04 15:10:56 link

Go for it, i think the three volunteers so far should meet on IRC sometime and divy out duties and then start a forum topic?

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-08-05 10:19:22 link

well, let's meet then :) but when? i which timezones are you and what time would you be online?
i'm in Estonia (GMT +02:00 + 1h for daylight savings). i assume that Milk is from Scandinavia and ls-universe is German so the time differences should not be a problem cause we're all in Europe :) so when would be a good time to meet? and i think irc.freenode.net #litestep would be an appropriate place :)

Posted by member 1316 on 2003-08-05 12:17:38 link

if you guys need help with any documentation (either doing it, or a proofer), lemme know. however, I only speak english (another example of crappy american public schools :P ). I'm thinking there's enough coding and graphics abilities between the three of you, so I don't want to get in the way. ;)

Posted by member 602 on 2003-08-06 04:26:14 link

Well I'm on dialup (a crapy one) until the end of august so the time I can spend online is limited. However any day is fine for me if we can keep it short. And your right about the time zones so that won't be a problem. Thing is I haven't used IRC in like five or six years. It took me about an hour to just connect to #litestep through miranda. So don't expect me to be some
mr. IRC. You can always reach me through mail though.

milkybits@netscape.net

But if it's going to be online then how about tonight at say 20.00 (Stockholm), that should be 21.00 for you Egonz then right. Ls-univers, you and I have the same time zone I suppose.

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-08-06 11:19:13 link

fine :) i'll be there.
btw, deuce, why don't you join us too ;) maybe u have some nice ideas.

Posted by member 1316 on 2003-08-06 11:54:55 link

well, I'll see if I can make it. uhh, what time would that be in eastern (gmt-5)?

Posted by member 2018 on 2003-08-07 01:42:36 link

i would like to help! ok at gfx and coding. but i'm good at concepts. and i would be willing to host the project on my website.

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-07 23:58:07 link

Can we get an update on what happened in the meeting etc?

Posted by member 602 on 2003-08-08 02:59:11 link

Well here's the short version. We decided to do kind of a "all in one" theme, if possible. Otherwise we'll go for like "two in one". I got the task to make a quick draft of the theme and so I have. The others are (hopefully if it's recieved) reviewing it as we speak.

To be continued...

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-08 09:20:33 link

Great!

Posted by member 6801 on 2003-08-08 15:28:43 link

cool :)

Posted by member 32550 on 2003-08-08 18:56:58 link

ohhh da** *crys out* only 2 days not in here and what happends?? a meeting and I'm not there *lol*

@ Milk, Yes it is the same time zone :)

ok, next time I'll be there.... *stamps angry on the floor*

Well, the users who know our themes know also that we're very good in coding :) (or perhaps creating new especially created modules for that theme)

okok.... lets talk later on IRC *lol*

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-08 22:38:56 link

I think you guys should start a "Gathering of the LS.net minds" topic and give us updates on the theme and give us a chance to decide on some features.

Edit: Scratch the part about asking for features in that thread cuz i see the poll now, but a thread for updates would be cool. Is there a way we could get it to only have certain people post updates/comments in that thread?

Posted by member 602 on 2003-08-09 08:13:48 link

A temporary topic that we could use for this would be great. I'll get in contact with devilboi when I get some time left over.

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-09 10:51:14 link

Good luck, keep up the good work guys.

Posted by member 57564 on 2003-08-22 18:40:05 link

Hey guys, i volunteer to help with any graphics for a theme - the last thing u need is a theme with crappy gfx. fortunatly im a photoshop junky and have written tutorials, made my own effects etc etc.

quick site design: http://www.cd4web.co.uk/work/site_design_new.jpg done in around 20 hours. (thats including the php scripting which is obviosuly not shown on the jpg...)

theres nothing better with a bit of candy for the eye, especially as you'll be using it all the time and looking at it so much.

(btw the site http://www.trkz.co.uk in my signature is quite an old, quickish design now... few decent grafix on there tho - try refreshing the intro page for random images (total of 3 me thinks).

do you know what would totally f*ckn rule? Flash in themes - man that would be awesome.... hint... hint...

drop me a shout at sly@trkz.co.uk if anybodys interested.

Posted by member 39367 on 2003-08-22 21:44:58 link

I believe milk and egonz are teamworking the graphics? Not tottaly sure though.

Posted by member 57564 on 2003-08-23 03:12:23 link

no probz, just trying to help =)

Posted by member 602 on 2003-08-23 03:59:29 link

You could do a wallpaper. I suck at that...

Posted by member 57564 on 2003-08-24 18:31:59 link

I love wallpapers... but I will need to know what kind of theme, reso etc. So I will need to see your bar/button/menu gfx etc etc.

I can also do menus pretty well too as I pay a lot of attention to detail (I have no life =].) - as you said in the other discussion which is linked to this one.

When I learn how to make themes/modules i'll submit my own :) (would have been designed for me though) - shouldn't take long if i try (i have a bit of a life really... =] )

Please when you code this up. that you make it so it will not always be on top. It is a pain when you try to play a game and it jumps out to the desktop
