Change process priority on startup! Thread last updated on 2004-04-11 01:47:07

Not exactly 'code', but Very Useful. [wasn't quite sure where to post this]

I found a program called ProcessSwitch that changes process priority on the fly. I've been looking for something like this for a long time. Why is this useful? You can set, for example, Explorer to Normal priority (instead of High like default), and set Litestep to High priority. I load this program on startup.

For those who use Explorer for their file manager, this makes it far less annoying. Before, if one tries something intensive -- like search for a file -- it takes ALL of the CPU and Litestep doesn't respond as quickly.

There's lots of other things you can do with ProcessSwitch, but I won't get into it here. I didn't make the program, but find it extremely helpful, and thought others might too!

just what I needed but I don't think explorer priority high is the default it only happens that way when using litestep (when explorer is set as shell its normal)..........the question is why?

Is there a reg key settin for explorer?

I just use task manager when I want to adjust process priorities, is this program any better?

If it changes the priority on the start of the process, that'd be pretty good, useful w/ LAME as well.
...except for that pesky 404 error.

ilmcuts you shuld do seome resarch on why explorer sets to high priority (on xp) with litestep and on normal when explorer is shell, I mean I'd imagine EVERYONE using litestep would have that problem, the thing is took me a while to notice it if explorer is set to high and it hits 90% (dragging and exploring) music delays.

I am just saying that this is something to be considerd for you developers.

It's on my ToDo list. Problem is that given the length of that list I probably won't have time to look into it before 2007. But maybe someone else has enough time *hint*.
