Sticky situation...can't edit registry to remove in XP Thread last updated on 2003-06-17 13:52:41

OK, I used the omar installer in XP and it put the simple theme on after which I tried to add another theme. When I went to the theme selector to select it, it didn't work as the only thing I can see now is a desktop pattern.

I have no UI and my nothing on my keyboard works. I gather I need to edit the registry to get rid of litestep....but I can't do this as no UI and KB not working.

Can anyone offer a solution?

PS: I'm writing this from Win98 which is dual booted on the same machine. I can access files on the XP drive from 98 but that's about all.

Press ctrl-alt-f1.

If that doesn't work you should be able to bring up taskmanager by pressing ctrl+alt+del and run regedit from there.

9x doesn't have a taskmanager which you can use to run programs, that was one of the reasons the ctrl-alt-f1 recovery menu was implemented i believe. If it doesn't help you can always boot into XP and edit system.ini.

mr_goat, if that's true, then the problem is bigger than litestep. or else, just a bad keyboard.
