empty systray? Thread last updated on 2003-02-12 18:16:47

I am also new to LS. The only theme I could get to work *out of the box* was Xi01. Problem is that my systray is always empty. I know I have stuff running (antivirus etc) but I cant see the icons.

Is there something special I need to do to make these visible?

It could be a configuration problem or it could be the fact that LS loaded after the icons were inserted. Try rebooting directly into LS and see if it fixes.

Did you try Stardock's Object Desktop or Object Bar before trying LiteStep? If so, you probably have a Stardock tray app that's grabbing all your icons. You'll need to disable that and keep it from running at startup.

I'm confused (please dont laugh) Try rebooting directly into litestep? I thought I was doing that already.

I have never used anything other than Win XP Pro so I'd have to say no on the object Desktop. But I thought I was booting into LS. I downloaded the program and installed it into C:\Litestep. After I rebooted my computer I had that Simplicity theme up.

That's not right?

edit...

After I read some of the other posts here I found this Fastswap.exe. I installed that and hit the new shell button. I still have nothing in the taskbar.

I'm sorry for being such an idiot :(

Taskbar or System Tray? I am going to assume you still mean System Tray.

Object Desktop is a desktop tweak/enhancing tool released by StarDock and it does skrew up LS. If you have never used it that is kewl.

If you have not tweaked the Simplicity theme at all there is a problem somewhere. What icons are you expecting to find in your system tray that are not appearing? Some users have been known to loose volume controls and network connectivity icons, which was fixed in later builds of the system tray and eventually the LiteStep core.

I'm sorry, yes I meant systray.

I have nothing at all there. My antivirus icon should be there, email program (when opened) should be there. Things like that. I have nothing at all in that box.

I'm also not using Simplicity. That one was alittle too boring for my taste after the first week. Once I figured out the basics (how to add to shortcuts etc) I went on to a different theme. Only way to learn is to just do it right? :)

did the icons show up in simplicity?

no. I've never had icons there. Even when I switch back to Simplicity from Xi01 I have none and I boot directly into LS now.

I'm about to give up

Try to desable the hide icons for inactive programs that is an option that is active by default. I think it's in control panel, taskbar/start menu options (not sure). I've had the same problem when start using XP. Disabling this feature solve the problem for me.

2002 Dec 10 is the latest version you can download for litestep, goto http://www.beyondconvention.net/ohussain/installer_downloads.shtml, uninstall your current LiteStep, and install the new one, it worked fine for me and I had the same problem. Got rid of NAV too and changed for BitDefender. Don't know which of these switches made the deal, but it did... Good luck :)
