New Litestep worse than older? (or I am too old) Thread last updated on 2003-06-13 11:21:12

Hi

I'm an old LiteStep fan. I use it for 4 years. I've used it on Win95, NT4 and Win2K. I remember the times when a simple change of the background wallpaper maked everything blow up. But for last 1-2 years I was so used to a stable version, so I did not dowload any theme or build after 0.2.4.6.
Today I decided to see waht's the new look of my favorite shell. I see may good things, I managed to recognize how to use new themes, where was the good step.rc splitted and so on. One thing I could not do.
I can't seem to show ICQ in the SysTray. I have GetRight, NAV and others there, but not ICQ.
Even worse. In the good OldLiteStep ICQ "floating" window was automatically seen on all VWM desktops. I was realy surprized that now the floating window stays only on the desktop where I put it.
Is there anything I could do? (I've thied restarting, thanks)
Other thing is: The old VWM could smoothly move windows. With the new I van only change the desktop a windows resides on, but not the position on desktop. I think this should be some parameter...
I have LiteStep 0.24.6.1 (the default for downloading), with CleanDesk 2 theme. It is Windows 2000 Professional SP3.

It seems to me that you just haven't had a good look at the documents. I'm certain that all of what you want LS to do, can easily be accomplished, but there might be a changed or added setting here and there. If you can't figure it out by yourself, you should post which modules you are using (sysvwm, ckvwm, rabidvwm... you name it), so it will be easier to help you.

try doing it yourself first, though, fixing stuff is always more fun when one do it without the help of others ;)

well, icq probably isn't specified as a sticky window. you can do it in the step, and I believe it's a vwm function. I can't remember the code itself, but it should be in the module readme. and for the vwm, it all depends on how your vwm is configured. I don't believe ALL vwm's will let you move windows desktop positions through the vwm, but at least most of them do. and again, check the modules docs. you should be able to find everything pretty easy.

Looking at CleanDesk 2, he's using systray2 and rabidvwm.

You'll want to add a *VWMSticky for ICQ to your personal.rc and remove VWMSnapWindowOnDrag from the theme's step.rc (or hold down ctrl as you drag the windows)
