Hi to all!
I'm 99% newbie[i managed to install and run Litestep with a downloaded theme] :). So please bear with me. ok, my system is WinXP Pro and i'm using Litestep[omar]0.24.6 My res is 800 x 600.

My questions >>

1. Is there a way to put icons on the desktop?
What should i edit?

2. What is the difference between indiestep and Litestep??

3. When i use Opera 7.11, i had to turn off the hotkeys[Litestep] because it messed up with Opera's hotkeys! WTF??

4. When i use the CleanDesk Theme, the window of an app does not look maximised although it is already max out. Why??[there is a line between the window and taskbar.]

5. After using Litestep, the startup time is longer than before using Litestep. The startup programs are still the same. Why does Litestep take so long to load??

thanks, i think that is all. i'll try to stay with Litestep cos i don't wanna use StyleXP to make Windows look pretty.

pls help.

1. yup :) use icondesk.dll

2. litestep is the program, the idea, the community, the shell
indiestep is a build of litestep, which you should use ;)

3. ls has it's own hotkeys and of course they will mess up if a program has the same ones. you can edit your ls hotkeys in hotkeys.rc

4. because in ls you can define the maximize-area using desktop modules like desktop.dll or jdesk.dll. read the docs for further information.

5. i guess you're using winxp with the new login screen. that's a win's bug with all alternative shells. if you don't want to wait then switch to classical logon or if you don't want to switch then press ctrl+alt+del when you have clicked your user-account and esc after that (to kill the task manager).

btw, stylexp skins your windows, ls doesn't do that. ls is a shell and changes the looks and functionality of your desktop. if you want to skin your windows, stylexp is still needed.

The screen shot for the maximize problem.[question4]

can't see it, needs login.
anyway i still believe that it's caused by smaller desktop area.

a link for the Docs? I looked in the docs section of this site but it says it is coming soon?? I see there are many FAQs and docs. Which one is more idiot proof? ;)

I don't quite understand "ctrl+alt+del and esc after that (to kill the task manager)". do you mean press ctrl+alt+del after XP startup? and i have to off the task manager? Isn't the task manager hidden unless i press ctrl+alt+del?

i mean the docs in your computer. ls comes with a readme (you can find desktop.dll explanation in there). if jdesk.dll is used then check the ..\modules\docs of your theme. all the third-party modules-related docs should be there.

first click your account. you see that the logon screen gets resized and then it just stays like that for a while. if you don't want to wait anymore just click ctrl+alt+del and your desktop will appear. then you can click esc to kill the task manager (or do it with a mouse, whichever is more convenient to you) ;)

oh .... stupid me. BTW, the task manager is useful, why kill it??

of course it's useful, if you use it all the time. i personally like to have the number of opened tasks as minimal as possible so i usually close it cause i don't need it at the moment :)
