Looking for LS themes WITHOUT a VWM Thread last updated on 2003-06-02 14:38:41

Just wondering if anyone knows of any cool themes without a VWM. I've just started running WinXP on my work machine (didn't have a choice), and I'm currently running explorer instead of LS due to the vwm problem with XP. I'm trying to simulate LS as much as pssible with explorer, and 3rd party tools (like aston's altDesk), but it's driving me crazy. I need my popup, and my hotkeys (windows hotkeys only apparently work the first time you hit it, if the program is still running), and my winamp controls on my desktop, and everything else. So, if anyone knows of any, please let me know, I would really appreciate it.

well, the obvious solution would be to comment out the loadmodule line for the vwm in the step.rc in whatever theme you want, and just modify a few other settings to make it look decent... depends on how much work you want to put into it

well, yeah, but in a lot of the themes, that would just leave an awkward looking blank spot in the theme.

There's a VWM issue with XP? What is it? I'm not having issues with it, except when switching from a theme with VWM to the theme that i'm working on, if i leave a program open on a Virt window, it'll stay there untill i go back into a VWM theme, and move it, or just end process.

I also don't have any bugs with VWM on my work or home XP machines. Unless of course you are skinning your windows.

I would do as doy suggested if you don't want VWM. You will find it's not that difficult move elements of the theme to fill in the space left behind. Just change the XY co-ordinates.

Or take screenshot cut out the bit were the VWM is place it as a shortcut to cover the hole but that would look sucky so I suggest find a theme you really like and learn to modify it yourself

I always rip out the VWm and fill it with useless modules like WeatherDesk or now GetWeather. Done it for years...quite fun actually.

Well, I already know how to mod themes, so that's not a problem. I'm just lazy. ;) But, I've already started using Milk's Litescape 2.1. The VWM and WinAmp controls are hidden on start, so it doesn't leave a big blank. I just disabled it, and I'm going to replace it with lsxcommand. And the VWM problem is when switching windows, all apps become sticky regardless of the step.rc settings. The strange thing is though, they're only sticky moving right through the vwm, not left. Here's another post about this issue: http://www.litestep.net/index.php?section=4&action=view&catId=1&id=908&hl=vwm. So, to get around it, I'm still using the altDesk VWM. It takes up more desktop real estate, but it's better than nothing.

you really are lazy... this would take about 5 seconds to fix the code and about 10 more minutes to fix the graphics.

well, it's actually more like I only run LS at work (I primarily game at home, so there's no reason to run LS), and I normally can't spend that much time on it, especially editing graphics, since I'm on the helpdesk.
